Even though the weather has been less than ideal so far this winter season, Trollhaugen has pulled out an impressive park setup lately. This must be why so many video edits have been filmed at Troll. You would think we would be sick of them, but Get Healthy Productions sent us this new one that got us pumped all over again. The ender by Mitch made us pee a little.

If you didn’t make it to a Premier show that involved Bald E-Gal’s new movie “The Convoy,” you definitely missed out. Luckily, parts of the movie are being released on Transworld’s website on a weekly basis. This week they released Ryan Paul’s full part and as usual it made us pee a little. Every year Bear Mountain in California hosts the best early-season rail jam called Hot Dawgs and Hand Rails. This invite-only event brings in some of the best riders and is truly the start of another snowboard season. This year a bunch of Minnesota riders were invited, and guess what, two of those riders where in the top 3. Ryan Paul pulled out the win and Jesse Paul came in third. Congrats guys! News regarding Ryan Paul has been fairly quiet lately, but he is back with the Giro Crew and he throws down as usual. The Giro Crew came to Minnesota with the goal of getting some urban shots and we can definitely say the accomplished that. Watch as Ryan, Anton Gunnarson, and Austen Granger put on a show for filmer Sam Fenton.

Just in case you forgot already, the Get Healthy Crew produced the excellent free snowboard movie “Going Green” last season. After such a great success, it looks like they spent the summer celebrating with tons of skating. Just as “Going Green” was fun to watch, so is their off-season. If you aren’t sold yet, you should probably know that there are Airblaster Ninja Suits involved…

The guys over at The Rental Shop through together an edit of their summers trip to Mount Hood. It’s full of random activities, skating and some occasional snowboarding. The Bald E-Gal Productions crew made a visit to the Celtek Jib Farm this winter. If you have never heard about the Jib Farm, it is the brainchild of local legends Bjorn and Erik Leines. The secret farm features all kinds of interesting features for riders to get creative, which they definitely did as you will see in this video. Tons of big names in this one, I wish we would have been invited.

A small crew called Emzy that we hadn’t heard of recently sent us an Afton late-season edit. Low and behold it featured the riding of local-legend Ryan Paul plus the rest of the Emzy crew. Definitely a fun edit once you make it past the scary beginning. Just kidding guys, be sure to check out the rest of the Emzy blog after you get Gaga.

It’s safe to say that nobody outside of Minnesota, and maybe the diggers at High Cascade Snowboard Camp, knew who Ryan Paul was before he did a flip onto a rail last year at the West Coast Invitational. Ryan isn’t a one trick pony, though. If you watch his High Cascade video edit from last summer you’ll know that kid can do every trick in the book — not just the one no one else can do. So here is Ryan Paul, the rail killer, not the Governor of Wisconsin.

What are you doing?
Not much. Just driving to my aunt’s house in San Francisco.

Where did you grow up riding?
I’m from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, so I grew up riding at Afton Alps.

Didn’t all the cool kids ride at Hyland?
Yeah, probably, but I grew up at Afton.

Maybe if you got some skinnier pants and told everyone you rode at Hyland you would be able to film with Videograss.
Probably.

Do people ever get you confused with the Governor of Wisconsin who wants to take away teacher’s retirements?
Is his name Ryan Paul or Ron Paul?

No, his name is Paul Ryan.
No they never do, but they think we’re related.

What’s been the highlight of your winter?
Going to Japan for sure. We went up to the north island and did some filming and rode down a volcano. We found some sweet spots, rode some street and watched a crazy big air contest.

Did people in Japan expect you to back flip onto rails?
No, there were no expectations. No one knew who I was.

Do people expect that here?
Yeah, totally — especially at contests people will ask if I’m going to flip onto the rail.

You can do other tricks too, right?
Yeah, and sometimes I actually shy away from it because I don’t want to be known as the guy who flips onto rails or whatever, but I’m starting to think of it as any other trick. It’s just like a cab 270 or whatever. It’s just a hard trick that people do in contests.

Snowboarders always talk about progressing, but when a game changer like that comes along they are actually afraid of it.
Yeah, they don’t want it. Lots of people hate on it so I know what you mean.

That’s just because they don’t want to have to learn it. It’s scary, and who wants to flip onto a piece of metal?
Yeah, it’s scary enough with snow underneath you. The metal makes it really scary.

Do you widen your stance at all for powder or do you keep the narrow rail kid stance and look all awkward with the straight leg?
Usually I set it back a little bit. Sometimes it gets a little wider. I try not to ride the super narrow stance no matter what.

In your High Cascade edit you’re riding some weird board with no nose or tail. Isn’t it just kind of cocky to do those kind of tricks on that board?
[Laughs] Maybe. Naw, it’s just fun. Some tricks are easier on that thing to be honest with you.

It really hurt my feelings.
I don’t know what to say. Sorry? I have an extra one at my house I can send to you.

Volcom just concluded their Peanut Butter Rail Jam tour at Mammoth Mountain on April 16th giving away a total of $25k in loot. Jesse Paul, Ryan Paul, Cullen Bernklau, Benny Milam, Vanessa Moore, Emily Blewitt and Sara Winger were there representing our great state and stealing a bit of that cash for themselves. In the men’s open Jesse Paul took home 1st while Ryan Paul pulled in a tight 2nd and Cullen Bernklau took home 4th. Vanessa, Sara and Emily took home 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in the girl’s open. In the 15 and Under class Benny Milam grabbed 2nd. While Minnesota dominated the podium Ryan Paul just wasn’t happy taking home 2nd so he decided to take home the prize of “Electric’s Gooeyest Move of the Day” earning him an extra $1,000.
