Every year it seems like the park at Afton Alps improves a lot. Last season was no exception as they pumped out several different parks all over the resort. This edit from Conor Rose shows you a couple of the setups at Afton, plus has some good riding from Conor as a bonus. Let’s see what Afton has in store for us next season!

Late Season Afton Riding with Jerome

Afton Alps has somehow been staying open longer than anybody else in the area. They were open last Saturday in the perfect sunshine and Jerome Kuntz of Jibbing with Jerome was there with his GoPro. Check out what you missed out on while you were sleeping all day. Oh yea, and don’t forget that Afton just announced they will be open again this weekend. Get out there.

Wild Mountain announced today that they will be closing for the rest of the week due to poor snow conditions. So far they have been the only resort to open in Minnesota and the weather hasn’t been very friendly to other resorts to try and catch up. Most resorts were open at this time last year, yet they keep pushing their opening dates back this year due to warm temperatures. Hopefully we will see the temperature drop after Thanksgiving as the weather forecasters predict. I don’t know about everybody else, but it has been pretty depressing for me to watch places out west such as Mount Baker open their season with powder days. Let’s all hope for colder weather so we can start the season we’ve been waiting for all summer long. In the meantime, make sure you stop by Joe’s Boardshop tomorrow night for a rail jam and an appearance by the Salomon pro team.

Other resorts trying to catch up to Wild Mountain

Wild Mountain has now been open for 3 days, but other resorts are doing their best to catch up. I was at Wild last night and I must say I was impressed with the snow conditions for how little time they had to blow the white gold. Across the river in Wisconsin, Trollhaugen has been making snow whenever possible but hasn’t officially given an opening day yet. Down in the south, Welch Village has started making a little bit of snow and has set November 27th as their tentative opening day. Also near the Twin Cities, Afton Alps has also begun blowing snow but hasn’t predicted an opening date. It looks like there is a series of warm weather headed our way, but let’s hope that doesn’t last long so we can have more places to ride.

Summit Boardshop Announces Pro/Am Rail Series

The Summit Boardshop recently announced that it will be hosting a Pro/Am Rail Series this season. This series will consist of several qualifiers with a point system to ensure that only the best riders will be in the final for the $4000+ cash purse. It will be kind of like you are going for the Olympics… Be sure to check back with rideMinnesota for results,photos, and videos from the events. Click the read more link for more detailed info.

Pro/Am Series Details

The Summit Pro/Am is a rail jam series. There are 4 qualifiers. At these 4 qualifiers the top snowboader and skier will be automatically invited to the final. Also, 2nd place will receive 100 points, 3rd will receive 50 points, and so on down to 10th place. The top 10 point leaders at the end of the series will also be invited to the final. The final will take place in the Summit “Backyard.” A last chance qualifier will give us a total of 20 amateur snowboarders and 20 amateur skiers the chance to compete against 5 special guests in the final. The top amateur in the final will win a special prize. Amateurs will also have a chance to battle the special guests for a $4000+ cash purse. Each qualifier will also have a top prize, snowboard/ski raffle and plenty of free stuff. There will be news releases for each qualifier.

How to Register:

To pre-register you can call 651-714-1117. You can reserve a spot for any of the qualifiers. You can also register the day of the even. Please call if you have any questions. Last chance qualifier is open only to those who have competed in one of the previous qualifiers. If you place first in a qualifier you will not need to compete in any other qualifier.

Afton and Buck Hill Now Open!

Well Afton Alps and Buck Hill are now officially part of the open for season crew. Check out their websites for their current hours and amount of runs they have open. Both places will have a few features setup to cure the boredom of 1-2 runs… Get your early season shred on.
